"KILLA" (Marathi Film) HONOURED AT BERLINALE

First time director Avinash Arun's Marathi feature Killa premiered at this year's 64th Berlinale. It has not only received the Special Mention from the Children's Jury in the Generation KPlus competition category having touched a jury comprising 7 teenagers and 11 children, but has also been awarded the Crystal Bear for Best Feature Film.  


The film was written by Arun (from an original idea he developed during the time he was studying cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of India), Tushar Paranjape and Omkar Barve. It casts Amruta Subhash, Archit Deodhar and Parth Bhalerao. The film focuses on the difficulties and lessons a youngster faces following his father's death when he migrates with his mother into the countryside.

Avinash Arun worked on Kai Po Che previously and is currently working in cinematograpy for a film by Nishikant Kamat's starring Irrfan Khan.

Killa is the third Marathi film to be premiered at the Berlinale (the other two were Umesh Kulkarni's Vihir in 2010 and Jabaar Patel's Saamna back in 1975) and has become the first Indian feature film to win the Crystal Bear. 

Killa would release in India next May 2014.
